American Girl Dolls

Does anyone have one of the American Girl Dolls? I do, but they're in my parent's basement in a box right now. I loved the American Girl Collection! Back in the day, (the late '80s/early'90s) when I got their catalog, their was only the three main dolls: Kirsten, the Swedish immigrant from 1854, Samantha the rich orphaned girl living in the Victorian times in 1904, and Molly, whose dad was off fighting in WWII in 1944.

When I was 11/12, I got Molly for Christmas. It was actually pretty funny, because I was so sure that huge box under the tree was this boardgame called Mall Madness, that I wanted so badly. (Turns out it was pretty lame, my friend got it and we played it at her house a few times). So when I opened it, I wasn't sure if I should be upset I didn't get Mall Madness, or estactic because I got an AGD. Heh. My brother made fun of me about that for months. Now, I don't know if it was a coincidence or my mom and my friend's mom planned this, but my friend Emily got the Kirsten doll, and her younger sister, Alex, recieved the Samantha doll that same Christmas as well. We'd play school with the dolls, we'd bring them to restaurants, we'd celebrate their birthdays. Even a couple years ago, when Emily and I were in NYC, we went to the American Girl Doll shop on 5th Avenue. That was so awesome!

Here are the items I owned from Molly's collection:
-The tap dance costume. (That tiara didn't last too long, though!)
-Halloween costume. (I was also a hula girl one year for Halloween).
-Velvet Christmas dress. (As well as the nurse doll and the box of presents).
-Pajamas and robe and slippers.
-Birthday dress. (My Molly's glasses never stayed on!)
Camp uniform. Gowonagin! Gowonagin! Gowonagin and try! Heh, I still remember that from the book.
-Plaid jumper and blouse.
-Molly's terrier. (Named Bennett, after her British friend, Emily Bennett).
-Molly'stocking. (The flipbook was lots of fun).
-Plaid suitcase.
-China tea set and party treats.
-Camping equipment. (I loved reading the newspaper).
-Schoolbag and supplies. (I loved that Molly's worst subject was math, like me).
-Saddle shoes. (I also had a pair of these for myself!)
-Bed.
-Desk.
-I also had a brown wooden table that had wings that folded down with two chairs, but that isn't pictured in the site.

My mom would make dresses for our dolls on her sewing machine, so I had a lot of other wardrobe choices for Molly as well.

When I was fourteen, I recieved the newest doll from the collection, Felcitiy, the colonial girl from 1774, for Christmas. As much as I loved Molly, I have to admit Felicity was my favorite: she was a readhead like moi and she was from my favorite time period.

Here are the items I owned from Felicity's collection:
-Christmas gown
-Cloak (as well as the handmuff and those snowshoes).
-Summer outfit.
-Spring dress and pinafore.
-Riding outfit. (This was my favorite outfit and I love the hat!)
-School outfit.
-Noah's ark. It was kind of a pain to set this up because all the animals would fall down, but it was still really cool.

Now, there are more dolls from different time periods, PLUS they have friends of the orginal dolls, like Molly's British friend, Emily, and Samantha's friend/adopted sister, Nellie, and Felicity's friend Elizabeth. I like the historical dolls a lot better than the baby dolls or the modern dolls.
